'quarter 174' is a collection of the fourth quarter of 2017. The time a photo was taken every day is recorded. I knew that some days I wouldn't be filming anything. That day is captured in one page of a book, and the day passes by.

'quarter' is a work divided into quarters that looks at the indescribable beauty and unartificial traces of time that can be seen and captures them as fragmentary moments. Filming is done with a smartphone camera, which is easy and fast, but also difficult and slow to remember the moment.

Smartphones, which are the easiest way to store memories in everyday life, play a major role in our lives. Easily taken photos are constantly accumulating and may be performing their original function. Smartphones continuously classify and display memories (past), including days, months, years, and locations, through algorithms. Classified photos even show things you don't want to remember. Even meaningless, unconscious photos become specially remembered moments. We want to find something in the edited and distorted truth, and we lock and store our memories in photos. The photos stored in this way are used as a means of reminiscing about the past.

Due to various factors, the performance of the smartphone significantly deteriorates over time, and the captured photos become blurry and unclear. It is just a part of a technical tool, but change comes from the mindset of the subject (photographer). The choice of object and tool is less important than having agency. The attitude of being able to deeply and slowly remember fragmentary moments also comes from a prepared identity.
